The intent
Working on the AIgitated project consumes most of my free time, but I receive a select number of subscribed sources to keep me informed about AI-related technology. Some provide a survey of cited references and other studies, sources, or opinions from various sources, which provide an overview of the current state of AI affairs. I maintain a hefty database of links and content that seem worth archiving for reference or future historical review, as I catalog what strikes me as having relevance, that speaks of observed truth (or specifically not), or introduces and explains new named subtopics. I monitor where we are in this new AI avalanche, and how we got here.
Occasionally, I may comment on the content, some of whom respond by thinking they have blocked me as punishment for raining on their parade and their gushing acolytes. Within the last month, a spate of articles and online posts have seemed particularly wide-ranging but loosely related, whichever side of the coin they may be presenting, with or without slight of mind.
I decided I should take some time to re-read and pass on items that stuck and struck me either as latecomers mirroring thoughts I had years ago, or the newly insightful, or those I find dreadful for any number of reasons be it their linguistic misdeeds, or those blinded by utopian tunnel vision (often from those making sure we note their PhD credentials). I am pulling and quoting only to provide snippets of things I have read that made a distinct impression, be it good, bad, or yet to be determined.
The presentation
I will present them more or less by publication date, which will give a sense of temporal flow. There is no organized agenda. I will not give detailed context. Some can stand on their own as complete ideas in a short statement. Some are bits and pieces that authors have cherry-picked and then, selectively and creatively edited and championed, as some media deliberately do, which their attention-span-addled faithful gobble up like crack because it’s what they want to hear.
I will rarely provide cites or links. Trust that I have pulled and quoted correctly. You draw your conclusions (or questions), connect your own dots. If you want greater context, I assume you are capable of copying snippets provided and searching on them to find the source, if desired. I am also not citing or linking because much will come from sources that 1) you can’t get to without being a member of the platform or service, 2) or can read only a limited amount before the full paywall restrictions kick in, and 3), I don’t want to send you to certain sources to spend time reading garbage content that will put $ in their pockets (meaning I plucked it for one or more of its faulty arguments or declarations). And links break. I have no time to constantly monitor and correct, if possible.
I will passively supply just enough info for you to find the trough on your own, but I will not be responsible if you choose to drink. If you desire to do so, it will be the result of your active search and reading.
These reading summaries might become an irregularly regular thing if I see sufficient interest.
